When I met Amy Lane a few years back, I told her that one of her recent books had shattered my heart into a thousand pieces She looked at me and said, That book wasn t Dani approved So you see, I am allowed to read only Amy Lane Lite, Amy s lighter stories without the full on pain and angst Which is not to say Warm Heart is all kittens and rainbows, because it s not This book is about surviving surviving in a blizzard on a mountain top, surviving the death of a loved one, surviving long enough to get your wounded friend to safety, surviving for five years while the love of your life goes through hook ups like socks Tevyn is an Olympic snowboarder Mallory is his financial adviser Mallory rarely misses one of Tevyn s competitions He claims he s just doing his job, but he clearly goes above and beyond for his favorite client Mal likes to watch Tevyn fly Tevyn a decade Mal s junior, free spirited, charming, impulsive knows he can count on Mal he s just waiting for Mal to catch up Mal kissed him softly If there s breath in my body, I ll stay Tevyn nodded If there s breath in my body, I ll always fly down the mountain for you One night Mal gives in and dances with Tevyn The timing isn t great though, because Mal arrives bearing sad news Tevyn s grandmother, the woman who raised him, is dying Tevyn and Mal, along with their pilot and friend Damien, take off in a helicopter during a blizzard, and the unthinkable happens The first 60 percent of the story is set in a raging snowstorm with the three men trying to survive The weather may be freezing, but things between Tevyn and Mal heat up quickly, as the two finally finally give into their feelings and kiss I appreciated the slower pacing of the story because it gave me a chance to see not only how Tevyn and Mal are together but how they deal with the curveballs life may throw their way and nearly dying in a helicopter crash is one hell of a curveball Hurt comfort is the predominant theme in the story, but there s a focus on family and friendship and dogs Damien is basically the third MC in the first half of the book, not that I minded, because he is amazing, and I can t wait for his story next I m less in love with Charlie, Mal s friend and business partner I didn t care for her attitude toward Tevyn I know she was just protecting Mal, but Mal s a grownass man and didn t need protecting from the love of his life The epilogue is all kinds of sweetness, what with hand knitted sweaters, dog kisses, and promises of forever This series is gonna kill me, but what a way to go.
DNF around 35%I m in the minority here but this one just wasn t doing a lot for me.
This was a fun read, but not the type of story that I typically gravitate toward.I usually want quite a bit of slow burn in my books, but in this story, the majority of the slow burn happened during the five years prior to the start of the story, with feelings actually divulged by the MC s within just a few chapters in.While trying to rush back to see Tevyn s sick grandmother before she died, Tevyn, Mallory and their pilot, Damien, crashed their helicopter on top of a mountain during a fierce snow storm, leaving them with very few supplies and entirely cut off from help.I did enjoy the survival plot, which lasted until around 65% into the book, but with so much to do to simply stay alive, while the romance was present, the never ending storm was pretty omnipresent.I have to say that I loathe being cold, so the damn near arctic conditions described as their days of being stranded were drawn out chapter after chapter, well, I was really, really, REALLY ready for them to be rescued.Mal and Tevyn were pretty adorable characters and I enjoyed seeing their relationship grow, while keeping a lid on their hormones until after they made their way back to civilization and much needed medical attention for Damien. Then once they d been saved, the rest of the book was a bit of a whirlwind, which kinda sort felt slightly fast paced, but not really annoyingly so I suspect I d just gotten used to how slow things has progressed previously, with them stuck in a snowy little cave for days on end.The angst was 99% a side effect of SNOW, with an itty bit thrown in by the grandmother s decline in health. There were three steamy scenes, which were pretty damn hot, so enough fun times in bed, but the reader wasn t ever in danger of being buried in an avalanche of dick.Amy told me that she s currently writing Damien and Preston s story, so I m anxiously awaiting to read about their adventures, but also PRAYING that it s on a warm, sunny beach somewhere.I d rate this book at around 3.75 stars and recommend it to fans of rescue stories And snow shivers My ARC copy of the book was provided by the publisher in exchange for a fair, unbiased review.See All My Latest Reads Review Quick Links
3.5 stars Warm Heart, while an Amy Lane book that starts with a catastrophic event, was surprisingly fluffy Is my angst meter that broken I enjoyed the story, but man I wish we could have experienced at least some of that UST from the 5 years previous to the story s beginning.Tevyn Moore is a champion snowboarder think Shaun White He s young, cocky, and confident at least when it comes to snowboarding He s also been in love with his money guy for ages, but he doesn t think his feelings are returned Tevyn also has a bit of a reputation He s kind of known as a bit of a player, but everyone loves him, and the people he has taken to his bed leave with smiles on their faces Mallory Armstrong is Tevyn s money guy Ever since Tevyn walked into his office, than 5 years ago, Mallory has been enthralled by Tevyn s drive and energy Mallory is in love with Tevyn, but being a decade older than Tevyn, he is cautious Mallory isn t looking for Mr Right Now and he s not sure if Tevyn is ready to settle down. There is nothing like a catastrophic event to put people s priorities in perspective Being faced with your death and or the death of someone you care about has a way of opening your eyes to what you almost lost That s exactly what happens in Warm Heart I can t say that the story is entirely angst free, but everything happened too fast for my tastes I like to feel some tension between the MC s, but I didn t get that 95% the angst came from the survival aspect of the story, which was 2 3 of the book, and the rest from Tevyn s grandmother s impending death None of it was relationship angst or tension Did I enjoy it, anyway Yes, and that is why I rounded up.I loved that getting down the mountain took effort and that it wasn t just the two of them That did give me something to chew on and the fact that all three of the characters had knowledge and skills that contributed to their rescue, made sure that no one was just a prop I can t say I was unhappy they made it off the mountain, though, because did I mention 2 3 of the book I m looking forward to Damien s story, next I enjoyed getting to know Damien quite a lot in this story and Preston looks like a tough cookie to crack ARC of Warm Heart was generously provided, by the publisher, in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this, this was a solid romance story I really do love when Amy Lane deviates from total and complete angst, although with some light angst in there to keep it interesting This follows the story of Mallory Armstrong and Tevyn Moore, who have known each other for five years, and loved each other for about that long and have never done anything about it Mallory is ten years older then Tevyn and is his financial advisor and consultant or whatever, and Tevyn is a professional snowboarder who has gone to the Olympics and medaled in them and so on He got endorsements and money with the help of Mallory, and they ve just been dancing around each other for too long. And Mallory goes to where Tevyn had his latest competition to tell him about his grandmother who raised Tevyn, who is fading fast and who Tevyn needs to see before she goes.Only thing is, where they are at a blizzard is coming in, and they have to leave fast, but they don t leave fast enough and get caught in the winds and such from the blizzard and get in a wreck on a mountain with their pilot friend who gets injured, and they have to survive in the blizzard with little food and barely enough to help keep their friend stable enough to survive I thought reading about their survival in the mountain was an interesting read and seeing these two come together was great I liked their chemistry and they were sweet together once they got together, and the sex, once we got to it, was indeed hot Since this is one of Lane s lighter reads and yep, lighter for Lane is the MC s getting stuck in a mountain in a blizzard after a helicopter crash lol there wasn t a ton of plot to it other than them surviving the mountain and getting to safety, and realizing their feelings for each other and finally getting together. As always, this was well written and engaging, with these two having great chemistry, and the secondary characters were interesting too and I suspect they ll be getting their own stories too So overall I recommend this, this was a good, run, fairly light read with a great romance to go along with a fun plot. Two thumbs up from me 3 ARC generously provided by the Alpha Book Club in exchange for an honest review
For five years, Mallory thought Tevyn was too young for him, and Tevyn was too gun shy from past losses to dare anything than one night stands So Mallory took care of Tevyn s affairs, leaving the young man free to shine and win on the snowboard slopes But now, as Tevyn s beloved grandmother is fading fast, Mallory is almost ready to be than just a manager, and Tevyn is almost ready to risk his heart If life left them alone, this would be the moment they fell into each other s arms, bodies, maybe hearts But fate is a bitch, and instead, they fall out of the sky in a helicopter in the middle of a blizzard Love has to take a back seat to survival, even while knowing they could lose each other puts a sharp edge on every moment together. This was adventure and romance, slow burn only because hypothermia, and had moments of humor The survival aspect had some drama, but didn t plunge into the emotions or angst it might have, and the resolution was sweet Even the aftermath reactions were shown to us in retrospect, when a real time panic attack would have added poignancy Definitely a lighter, fluffier Amy Lane, with appealing main characters, and a warm ending A couple of characters with difficult pasts look like the prospective MCs for a future book, and I ll be onboard for that one.
2.5 starsI really wanted to like this, but this didn t feel like the Amy Lane I know I m not a fan of the angsty Amy Lane books, but the light ones I adore. But I immediately felt like I was dropped in the middle of a series when I started this book The helicopter crash and the resulting survival these guys had to do was the one thing that made me finish this book Because the romance was just so very underdeveloped. These guys had already known each other for 5 years and somehow I never felt as if I caught up with them and their history I felt as if lots of things were assumed in this Like after the crash when Mal hints at being in love with Tevyn, and Tevyn doesn t really act surprised but just goes with it It was weird how they never really reacted to life altering revelations Damien mentions in passing that Mal loves Tevyn and Tevyn just goes back to what he is doing at that moment The same with the actual I love yous, it was like it was mentioned in passing There was no real start to the relationship These guys just suddenly decided they were an item.I felt like the emotions never went very deep These guys start a relationship based on the fact that they ve apparently loved each other for years, but that didn t felt entirely right to me Because it is also mentioned that Tevyn slept with anything that moves Why would he do that when he actually loved Mal I was also quite confused sometimes and that has never happened to me with an Amy Lane book These guys would talk about something and I would be completely lost Like when Damien mentions Preston I know this is supposed to be a hint teaser intro in the next book, but it just seemed strange how Damien suddenly introduced Preston Especially because both Tevyn and Mal knew him so they went with it, but I as a reader was confused and I felt it was weird that that information suddenly got dropped into a scene when I wasn t expecting it Leg doesn t work, Mal You re cute But you re not Preston Why aren t you Preston, Mal I woke up this morning and wanted Preston He won t even look at me if I m not a Labrador retriever Well, we ll have to get you back home so you can be a Labrador retriever for Preston Okay Can t, Damien said glumly He s Gecko s little brother No touchin the little brother, Mal That s a rule Tell that to Blake Manning, Tevyn said, because Mallory was busy fishing out a strip of T shirt from the water Who s tha Guy who plays for my favorite band, Tevyn told him, taking his own strip of T shirt to wash the vinyl now that Mal had stripped the old gauze Three guys in the band are older brothers, and he just got engaged to the fourth, the baby brother You gotta be honest about it, I think He d seen interviews the way Cheever Sanders had looked at Blake Manning had made him yearn for things he d never voiced to himself before He s young Damien sighed Likes dogs n people Don blame him These kind of conversations happened the entire time Like I was supposed to know all of these people It was weird and made me feel disconnected from the people and the story.I had high hopes, but this wasn t the book for me.
Tevyn Moore shoulder length curly blond hair flying, lithe, powerful athlete s body gyrating with a smile and a booty bump for everybody has three Olympic medals and four World Championships but what he really longs for is his financial advisor, the sensible, stable guy who manages his finances and makes it possible for Tevyn to care for his beloved grandmother However that hasn t stopped Tevyn from getting laid a lot these guys and girls they re, you know, dance partners who got naked Mallory Armstrong is solid and rooted he was concrete when Tevyn was air while nurturing his pathetic old man crush for five years and comparing every man he meets to Tevyn And when Tevyn, Mallory and their pilot Damien crash on a snowy mountaintop, everything changes in a big hurry Even though this book features a catastrophic helicopter crash with injuries, an epic struggle for survival and a harrowing trek down the side of a mountain, Warm Heart still rates considerably lower on the Amy Lane Angst o Meter than some of her other works String Boys, I m lookin at you The story really holds your interest as the men work together to survive and find a way back home After five years of basically foreplay, Tevyn and Mal are all in on their relationship and their chemistry burns hot in a sexy handful of scenes About 65% of the book is the escape down the mountain which personally feels just a bit too elongated , while the remainder rapidly deals with the loss of Tevyn s grandmother, establishes the relationship between Damien and Preston for the next book in the series, quickly introduces some conflict in the person of Mal s very irritating business partner former lover Charlie, and then gives us what is undeniably a perfectly lovely happy ending 4 stars for this enjoyable read love was always worth the risk, and that faith could be rewarded, and that whether you stayed on the mountain or came down, what mattered was you did it together I received an ARC from Dreamspinner Press in exchange for an honest review.Review posted at Gay Book Reviews check it out
I m to the point in my Lane hoarding that I want to choose every Lane to love And this one is so fresh and frozen and different but still encompasses everything I adore about Amy s stories We are in the midst of a heatwave and I loved slipping into the blustery snow covered setting I m a sucker for snow However, this snow wasn t kind or forgiving Things kick off with a startling crash Helicopters and snowstorms aren t a good mix And this time, the angst comes in the form of mother nature Survival is the name of the game Despite the focus revolving around the men making it off the mountain top alive, the core of the story was most definitely all Tevyn and Mallory I enjoyed both very much and was eager to see them claim their happily ever after. What s to like As with all Dreamspun Desires, the flow felt balanced and I d consider this a fairly easy lighthearted read Tevyn and Mallory have a professional relationship that has been on the cusp of becoming personal for quite some time Tevyn is waiting for Mallory to make his move and Mallory is waiting for Tevyn to move on He s a decade older and thinks Tevyn deserves or better However, Tevyn knows exactly what he wants and he s ready to take it When they are suddenly faced with a life or death situation he can t see the sense in holding back any He s just going to take and ask for forgiveness later, that is if he needs it Turns out he doesn t I was captivated with all of the survival tactics and was fascinated with Tevyn s never ending Go bag I enjoyed all of the secondary cast except Mallory s partner and best friend She was rude and rude and rude Besides Charlie, everyone was great I m thrilled this is a new series and look forward to Damien and Preston s story. What s to love Not many people can take a deadly situation and sprinkle romance into the mix Thankfully, Lane can Even though danger loomed I felt the spark and the heat of their desires Of course, there s not a lot of naked dancing in a blizzard but the sexual tension was intense I loved the loyalty and confidence they had in each other I loved the deep harbored feelings that finally burst free I loved how selflessly they cared for one another I loved the pride Mallory had for Tevyn and the respect Tevyn had for Mallory I loved Tevyn s grandmother and her sweaters The dramatic scene that saved their skin was a bit far fetched but nevertheless, I loved it Finally, I loved the furry friend Yep There s lots to love here.Beware of Severe weather forces a slow burn Fierce determination keeps the coals burning And a climactic plunge proves to be successful. This book is for Lane fans probably have this on their list, and if you don t yet, get on it I believe snow lovers and snow haters alike will enjoy this warm hearted adventure.Book UNfunk
Now this is what I m talkin about This is the Amy I love Leave it to Amy to take a stuck on a mountain in a blizzard story and make it about hope and love and humor.Normally I hate these kinds of stories I grew up in the mountains and I totally don t ever want to build a snow fort or live in a cave or do anything revolving around 5 layers of clothes No thank you And I don t really love reading about being cold either. But, Amy manages to take what might be clich and make it totally different There was a lot of happy coincidences that allow our guys to make it but she does make it seem at least mostly plausible I m not sure about the final snowboarding bit but it was fun to imagine I really enjoyed these characters and am looking forward to in this series.Highly recommended 5 of 5 stars
